Interpretations: In the Beginning
  1. How scientific this explanation is very scientific. The fish is making the fish’s and the birds are making more birds. Its not like the fish is making birds and the birds are making snakes. So I think its all good. Kind of like when the world all started.
  2. It kind of seems like Bumba is like a god. He even had three sons that would finish the world. The first son made white ants; the second one brought forth marvelous living plants (trees, flowers, grass, ect.), and the third one wanted something very different, he made the bird called the kite.
  3. The tone that it sets in this story is very peaceful. Talking about how the village all started and began. Then at the end when all the creatures were all living and knew how to interact seemed like a good place to live.
  4. The Purpose of his story was how he thinks how the world might of started. I think the purpose of this story might be the legend in his village of how the world might have began. It was different than what I thought it was going to be. Each creature made a different creature.

Interpretations: Quiche-Mayan Story
  1. How important in the Quinche creation story is language? It is very important in this type of story. How the author explained and worded in his story how the world started is very well. It also gives images in your head while you’re reading the story.
  2. In the Quinche story what are the creators’ main attributes? How are they demonstrated in the story? It talks about how they had a deep talk and how they even argued over what was to be. They planned the whole creation, arguing each point until their words and thoughts crystallized and became the same thing.
  3. What seems to be the creators’ main motive in creating “a main” in the Quinche story? The main creating in this story is “Earth.” All the things that they are putting together would make a place called “Earth.”
  4. Interpret the last sentence of the Quinches story. What explanation does it provide for the creation? “It will be a creation that will mount the darkness.” What that means is when all those things come together, like the sun and with the wind that will be pushing the ocean.
  5. Compare the tones and meanings of the two creation stories. I must say that the tones of the stories are very different but the meanings are the same. Both started how the earth was very quite but while more things were more created the more action started to begin.

Telling his kids to live how they wanted and right when they started doing bad in school he changed his thinking and went back to his mothers thinking.
3.      What I thought about the story is that it got me into the story right when I read the line, “They will never take me back into the sticks.” It reminded me about living in Shelton. But I thought it was a good story because I know that I say right now that I’m not going to be like my parents but deep down I’m going to be just like them.
