Q. 3.) Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, which exposed unsanitary conditions in the meatpacking industry, led to the passage of which two laws to protect consumers?

A.) After President Theodore Roosevelt read the book, he called the Congress to pass a law establishing the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and started setting up federal inspection standards for meat and on June 30th, Congress had passed the Pure Food and Drug Act, cracking down on unsafe and patent medicines, and the Meat Inspection Act.

Q. 4.)What does Sinclair mean when he says "I aimed at the public's heart and by accident I hit it in the stomach."

A.) I think that Sinclair was trying to hit the public where it hurts, to change how things were being done in the meat industry. But it wasn't deep enough to effect the meat industry and the public didn't care. So he had to do more to help influence the public.
