In this essay I am going to discuss global warming. Some people believe that global warming is not happening but the truth is that global warming is happening weather we like it or not and it is happening because of natural and man made causes right under our noses. Today I am here to give all you skeptics a reason to believe it is happening.

 

The first reason that I believe global warming is happening is because of green house gases. These gases are gases that emit and absorb radiation. The most abundant green house gas is water vapor it is responsible for 32-72% of the greenhouse effect in global warming. If you do not know what the green house effect is I will explain in the further paragraphs. Power stations are the biggest green house gas emitters into the earth. They mainly emit carbon dioxide. Not to mention that carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere longer as it keeps getting emitted.

 

My next reason for thinking that global warming is happing is because all of the human activity. I am not saying that human activity is the total cause of global warming but what I am saying is that human sure do increase the warming processes. I think that we increase the warming process because we as humans use fossil fuels for energy. The worlds economy runs on carbon which is the fuel in fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide is the first main green house gas that is causing the green house effect. But if we were to completely eliminate Carbon dioxide from its emission it would literally stop the industrial world. Another human cause that accelerates the warming process is agriculture. Methane is the second most significant cause to greenhouse warming. Now I know what you are thinking is how can agriculture and methane be in the same sentence. Well here is the explanation… cows are one of the greatest methane emitters. Their diet and multiple stomachs causes them to emit methane which they exhale with every breath. If you think about we have a lot of cows around the world and I mean a lot. Another reason that humans contribute to the warming of the earth is because we use air conditioners. How weird that something used to cool us down is heating the world. The reason that air conditioners heat the world is because of the chlorofluorocarbons that are used in the air conditioners, this organic compound contains carbon, chlorine and fluorine.

 

My last and final reason for global warming is that we are going through a green house effect in the world. The green house effect is a natural warming process. It is caused by green house gases in the air treating the earth like a green house and heating it. Humans add to the green house effect by all of the extra gases they add into the earth. The process of the green house effect is simple to follow, Heat (infrared energy) radiates outward from the warmed surface of the Earth. Some of the infrared energy is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which re-emit the energy in all directions. The infrared energy further warms the Earth. Like I said before us as humans amplify the warming process and the green house effect we do this because we emit higher levels of green house gases into the atmosphere which traps more of the infrared energy into the earth.
