Abstract: Something that is difficult to understand, or is theoretical. It relays an idea that is not set in stone or concrete.      

Abstract art is what comes to my mind when I think about the word 'abstract'. Like the pictures below, its hard to wrap your mind around the concept that something is not what it seems.                

 

Rabbit or Duck??

   ^abstract thought: is it a rabbit or a duck?^          

 Acronym: A phrase or series of words shortened to form a new word consisting of the first letter of each word. 

Acronyms are commonly used when texting in this day and age. You see acronyms everyday weather it be messaging someone through text or looking at a billbord or organization. Acronyms are used to shorten a lengthy name or title into a word easier to use all around.

 Address: Something that is said or written to a specific person or group. Usually written formally to conve something or get a point across to a specific audiance. Also can be an introduction i.e. the way you address someone or a group of people.

Affect: To cause or change.

Not to be missunderstood with 'effect', affect is what happens before something can be effected.

Alter: To modify or to make different.

Alternative is a word derived from the word alter, alternative meaning something is changed and done differently.

   

Analogy: A similarity where a comparison can be made upon.

Usually used to help prove a point or help understand something else. When telling a story or an event that happened, someone might add in an analogy of something simmilar to the situation that happened to make it eaiser for the other person to relate to or understand better. 

 

Annotate: An expanitory or critical note that helps someone understand something better.

Approximate: An esstimate that is almost exact or close to an accuracy.

Articulate: To express something with clearity and effectiveness and pronouncing clearly.

Assert: To maintain or defend with force or confidence.

Assess: To evaluate the worth or importance of an object or idea. 

Associate: To have relations or connects with something. 

Authentic: Something original that has value and an undisputed origin.
